Made in the Midlands are excited to announce that Control Energy Costs (CEC) have joined as our newest Patron members.

CEC can provide your business with a full utility management and procurement service which covers energy, electricity, gas, water and associated costs. CEC can manage all of the administration, whilst involving their clients in all of the decision-making processes.

At the latest Made in the Midlands roundtable hosted by Petford Tools Ltd, the energy industry and CEC were the major topics of conversation. In turn, Petford Tools Ltd and ANT Industries have become CEC’s latest clients after learning about the potential energy savings available to their business.

CEC’s National Business Development Manager, Liam Conway stated: “We can support manufacturers in understanding their energy consumptions, profiles and spends. We initially conduct a no cost, no obligation audit and analysis of their historic supply terms and current supply terms. It is an easy decision for business owners to speak to us.”

If CEC fail to find anything outstanding in their initial report of your business, you will not have to pay them a penny. Instead, they operate on a share of savings basis, where they will take a 40% share of the energy savings they can offer your company. Unlike energy brokers, CEC will not take any commission from suppliers. This means that they can always reduce a company's costs in comparison to an energy broker. CEC design their services to have clear and sensible conversations with clients to help succinctly explain the complex energy industry.

Furthermore, CEC operate on a quality over quantity basis, as Conway added: “We have ten analysts in our offices and each account has a dedicated account manager. We’d rather have fewer clients of really great quality. We work with around 800 clients and around 52% of them are manufacturers.”

CEC ensure that all of the costs paid to them are transparent, whereas some energy brokers are liable to adding hidden costs. Within manufacturing, the majority of Directors’ in control of energy costs tend to greatly underestimate the potential savings available to their company. The larger the scale of the business, the greater opportunity it is that CEC can provide added value to your business.

Additionally, Conway said: “For many manufacturing companies they don’t fully understand or manage their energy costs, if a business spends 1-3% of turnover on energy it tends not to be appropriately managed because there are more important matters to control first."

Following the CEC Roundtable discussion, Petford Tools Ltd MD, Melvin Sinar invited CEC to conduct their initial audit and analysis work. Within four weeks of engaging with CEC, Petford Tools Ltd are benefiting to the tune of £55,000 per annum. CEC identified overcharges, reduced third party costs and implemented significant new contract supply cost savings.

In conclusion, Conway said: “If you are a manufacturing company that is using an energy broker, we can probably reduce those costs by around 3-6% immediately. That is probably the lowest estimation of what we could do for clients. For most clients we can offer a significantly greater saving than that. We are aiming to host another roundtable discussion as a part of our membership and we look forward to informing manufacturing businesses of the potential savings we can offer them.”
