Check Your Electricity Agreed Supply Capacity As Excess Charges Kick In...
As of April 2018 the rules around exceeding your agreed supply capacity changed which now means if you exceed your KVA capacity you will pay an excess charge (typically 3 times the agreed rate).
Previously any excess was charged at the agreed rate so there was no direct 'cost' or 'impact' to the business. In a bid to ensure the distribution network is managed better and more smoothly the new charges will be seen on invoices moving forward.
As such it is important that businesses with a half hourly electricity meter are aware of their Agreed Supply Capacity and where they peak against this. A typical suggestion is to have a 20% buffer on top of your current peak.
As part of our audit service for clients we conduct a review of the previous 12 months data to ensure the levels are correct and appropriate for a business. Where applicable these may need to be changed, which we undertake for clients without charge as part of our wider service to them.
